Mr. Merrell prepares and prosecutes patent applications in a broad range of technical fields, including medical devices, digital healthcare, wearable devices, computer architecture, data processing, network communications, 5G RAN, data generation and analysis, unmanned aerial vehicles, optical systems, software/business methods, and more.
Mr. Merrell’s practice additionally involves performing searches and preparing opinions for clients, including freedom-to-operate, patentability, invent-around, invalidity, non-infringement, and opposition searches and opinions.
Mr. Merrell has served as counsel on over 40 post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Merrell garnered over seven years of experience in all aspects of patent law at an intellectual property boutique firm in the Washington, D.C. area. Mr. Merrell also gained experience preparing and prosecuting standard-essential patent applications at a research and development laboratory that focuses on the 5G and video compression arts, also in the Washington, D.C. area.
