Dr. Mark Nuell is a registered patent attorney and of counsel to Roberts Calderon Safran & Cole, P.C. Dr. Nuell has been working in the field of intellectual property since 1991 and is a member of the California and Virginia bars.

Dr. Nuell assists clients, including start-up and small companies, in the planning of their intellectual property strategy and in the obtaining of patent rights in their inventions. His technical specialties span many fields of genetic engineering, including cloned nucleic acids, vectors, vaccines, gene therapy, cell lines, recombinant proteins, antibodies, and various genetic engineering methods. In addition, Dr. Nuell works in the fields of materials science, diagnostic and therapeutic compositions and methods, separation methods, analytic methods and the like. Dr. Nuell also works in the chemistry arts generally, including  chemical engineering processes.

Dr. Nuell’s practice also includes a variety of transactional, due diligence and opinion work, including patentability, validity and infringement analyses and freedom to operate opinions.

Dr. Nuell is a frequent lecturer on intellectual property topics, and has participated as an invited speaker at meetings of the Licensing Executive Society and the Biotechnology Industry Organization as well as providing instruction in U.S. patent practice at client law firms, the Danish Patent Office and at various universities and research institutes. In addition to publishing through the Food and Drug Law Institute Dr. Nuell is a contributing author to the Practicing Law Institute Practice Center website.
